Alteryx: What is it? How does it work?

In the digital age, businesses collect thousands of pieces of data every day, which are essential to their development. As technology develops, more and more data is created, to the point where analysing it becomes back-breaking. To make this task easier, many tools, such as Alteryx, offer to centralise and analyse the newly formed data. So what is Alteryx? In this article we'll take you through all the features of this AI-powered platform.

What is Alteryx?

Founded in 1997, Alteryx is a no-code data automation and analysis platform. Used by over 50 million users worldwide, it can be seen as an easy-to-use suite of tools for aggregating and analysing a company’s data sources. It can be used by companies in a wide range of sectors.

Today, a tool like this is essential for a high-performance digital marketing team.

What are the features of Alteryx?

Alteryx contains 3 software packages: Alteryx Designer, Server and Gallery. Each of these tools specialises in one aspect of data analysis and aggregation:

  • Alteryx Designer offers predictive and spatial analyses, data reporting and visualisations. It is also possible to create workflows to automate analyses, even if they come from different sources.
  • Alteryx Server offers businesses a scalable, highly available architecture for creating complex, advanced analyses. The analyses can then be transmitted securely within the company, and it is even possible to automate their delivery.
  • With Server, analysis managers can govern access rights to analyses and analysis results. Server also enables external analysis applications to be stored and used centrally and securely.
  • The last of these is Alteryx Analytics Gallery, a cloud application that enables models or applications to be shared with the company’s partners, customers or suppliers.

Why choose Alteryx?

With Alteryx’s tools, developers and data scientists will be able to develop their own analysis or data collection programmes. This platform saves valuable time for teams of programmers.

Creating programmes is very easy with Alteryx, thanks to its drag-and-drop interface, and deployment and assimilation take very little time.

From a professional point of view, Alteryx offers certification of its products to help you develop your skills and master the platform.

How much does Alteryx cost?

Alteryx is financed by annual contracts that vary according to the tools required for the company’s activity. Three-year contracts are also available, offering lower prices.

Alteryx Designer is priced at 5195 euros per year per user. With the additional spatial data analysis functionalities, the price is an additional €11700 per user per year, i.e. €16895.

And if you want to take advantage of the demographic and filmographic data analysis functions, you will have to pay 33800 euros per user per year.

Desktop scheduling is priced at €6,500 per user per year.

The Alteryx Server tool costs €5,8500 per year for a server with four CPUs. Lastly, the Alteryx Gallery Cloud application is priced at 4,950 euros. A monthly service of 80 euros per month is also available, giving access to the software’s basic functions.

Because of Alteryx’s prices, the company offers a 14-day trial version that also gives access to email and telephone support, as well as online chat.

What are the alternatives to Alteryx?

Given its price, some companies are looking for an alternative to this suite of tools, which is perhaps too comprehensive.

For data-driven businesses, the open source artificial intelligence platform, Dataiku, represents a very convincing alternative.

This tool is infrastructure agnostic. It works with all types of cloud, and with on-premises storage and computing systems.

Its aim is to meet the needs of data scientists, data engineers, business analysts and AI developers. It offers functionalities for data preparation, analysis and the construction of Machine Learning models.

Alteryx is a cutting-edge tool for companies looking to automate their data collection and analysis processes.

Despite its high cost, Alteryx will pay for itself in terms of functionality. If you’re looking for new data marketing solutions or training in this field, don’t hesitate to consult our articles or our Data Marketing training course on DataScientest.
