SAP evolves its Data Warehouse Cloud with SAP Datasphere. New features have been integrated to meet the constant changes in the data landscape. Discover this new-generation data solution.

What is SAP Datasphere?

Launched in March 2023, SAP Datasphere is the next generation of Data Warehouse Cloud. Like its predecessor, Datasphere provides companies with a data warehouse available in the cloud.

This new solution fully aligns with the diversification of the data expert landscape. Competitors are increasing in number, making it impossible to capture all market shares. To face this growing competition, SAP adapts by offering more flexibility to its clients (particularly for data transfer).

What are the new features of SAP Datasphere?

Improved Data Integration

SAP Datasphere offers a better data integration experience in several ways:

  • Users can now import data from a wide range of sources (cloud, on-premises, SAP data, non-SAP data).
  • BW S/4HANA and S/4HANA products are natively integrated into the solution, facilitating access to data in existing SAP environments.
  • Powerful integration features have been added, such as data mapping, transformation, and data quality.

Data Cataloging

The SAP Datasphere catalog improves data management with automated data profiling features, search functionalities, and a glossary.

Users thus benefit from a simplified view of their data flow. They can now:

  • generate insights on data characteristics and quality;
  • easily access reliable data for quality modeling;
  • analyze the history and impact of data on decision-making.

Data Modeling

Modeling is possible via two complementary tools:

  • Data Builder: With its simplified interface, this modeling editor allows combining, cleaning, and preparing data for use in data visualization tools. Users can create graphical views, SQL views, tables, analytical models, data flows, task chains, etc.
  • Business Builder: This tool allows combining, refining, and enriching objects already created in Data Builder. It can also be used to create business units, consumption models, and perspectives.

Workspace Management

Workspaces are data repositories representing a specific business area. SAP Datasphere provides these to its users to offer a centralized and secure modeling environment.

They can be used for various departments or use cases. Most importantly, administrators can manage them according to the organization’s needs. Besides creating these virtual environments, they can allocate storage space (disk and memory), set priority, add users and assign roles, use monitoring and logging tools, etc.

Other New Features

In addition to the mentioned features, SAP Datasphere brings other improvements:

  • Enhanced data governance features to ensure data quality, security, and compliance;
  • A cloud-native architecture designed for increased scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency;
  • Self-service access to promote data democratization;
  • New strategic partnerships with Databricks, Collibra, Confluent, and DataRobot.

Thanks to all these new features, SAP Datasphere allows companies to modernize their data management infrastructure to fully leverage the value of their data. It becomes a must-master tool for data experts.
