The Microsoft MB-260: Microsoft Customer Data Platform exam assesses mastery of the Dynamics 365 Customer Insights cloud service and other customer data management platforms. Find out everything you need to know about this certification, and how to get it!
While Microsoft often updates its exams, it’s rare for a completely new certification to be launched. However, in November 2021, the American firm introduced MB-260: Microsoft Customer Data Platform Specialist.
What is MB-260?
The MB-260 exam assesses the ability to implement solutions that provide insights into customer profiles, and track engagement activities to help companies improve the customer experience and increase retention.
Candidates must be familiar with Dynamics 365 Customer Insights, and one or more additional Dynamics 365 applications. They must also be proficient in Power Query, Microsoft Dataverse, Common Data Model and the Microsoft Power Platform.
In addition, this test requires knowledge of privacy practices, compliance with industry standards and applicable laws, consent, security, responsible AI and data retention policy.
In short, as the name suggests, this exam is aimed at specialists in customer data platforms such as Dynamics 365 Customer Insights. The latter brings together all a company’s data for analysis and the application of Machine Learning techniques.
It should be noted that this is the first “Business Applications” exam associated with a “Specialty” and not with an “Associate” or “Expert” certification. Previously, this type of exam was reserved for cloud certifications related to Azure and Microsoft 365.
They cover technology areas that do not correspond to any specific role, such as the Azure Virtual Desktop service. This suggests that Microsoft believes that Dynamics 365 Customer Insights also requires its own “specialty”.
What skills are assessed?
To pass the MB-260 test, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of the skills being assessed. What’s more, there are a few things you need to master first.
First of all, it’s essential to know how to use the Dynamics 365 Customer Insights service. One of the main topics is the creation of customer profiles through data unification. In particular, you’ll need to know how to configure relationships and implement merges.
Other technologies are covered, such as Azure Data Factory and Power Query, but you’ll simply need to know how to use them within the Customer Insights application. For example, you’ll need to know how to ingest data onto the platform using Azure Data Factory pipelines.
Candidates must also be able to implement AI predictions in Customer Insights, configure metrics and segments, and set up connections to third-party tools.
Generally speaking, the skills measured align with the steps to be taken when deploying a Customer Insights solution for the first time. These range from design to configuration and administration. It is therefore essential to get to grips with the platform in order to be well prepared.
